Women's Volleyball's Rally in Third Set Not Enough Against Manhattanville College

NEW YORK – The Yeshiva University women's volleyball team dropped its Skyline Conference contest to Manhattanville College, in straight sets, at ARC Arena on Wednesday evening. Set scores were 25-13, 25-8, and 25-15.

Senior Gabrielle Kupferman led the attack for the Maccabees (0-10, 0-8 Skyline) as she slammed home five kills. She also added two solo blocks, a block assist, and one dig on the defensive end. Junior Ashley Botnick led all players with 13 digs, while freshman Shany Elmaleh tallied seven digs, a kill, and a service ace. Senior Emily Zrihen generated a pair of kills and six digs. Senior Devorah Batt and junior Zoey Botnick each chipped in on defense with four digs, with the former having a block and the latter recording a pair of assists.

Manhattanville (6-1, 1-0 Skyline) did not trail at all in each of the first two sets.

Yeshiva had a strong start to the third set, highlighted by back-to-back kills from Kupferman, as YU jumped out to a 4-3 advantage. However, the Valiants scored 15 straight points to take a commanding hold they would not surrender. The Maccabees did go on a 10-3 run, later in the stanza, highlighted by two kills from Kupferman and a service ace by both Elmaleh and senior Tali Miller, to narrow the opposition's benefit to 23-15. However, Manhattanville scored the final two points to clinch the set and the conference victory.

For the Maccabees, Miller had five assists and two digs. Junior Aleesa Elbaum had a solid match defensively with four digs.  Senior Daniella Rothman produced a block. Rookie Sara Chemel helped with a block assist.

For the Valiants, rookie Zoe Zols had 10 kills and six digs, while senior Katelyn Kamei produced nine digs and six service aces.

Yeshiva will go on its holiday break, but will return to action on Sunday, October 23 with a tri-match at King's College (Pa.). YU will battle Medgar Evers College at 2:00 p.m., and then take on King's College (Pa.) at 4:00 p.m.
