FLUSHING, N.Y. – The Yeshiva University women's tennis team continued its surge on Wednesday evening by earning an impressive and crucial Skyline Conference victory over Manhattanville College, 8-1, at the USTA National Tennis Center on Wednesday evening. YU has now won three matches in a row and bumps its record to 4-3 overall and 2-3 in league play. Manhattanville falls to 0-3 overall and 0-2 in the conference.
Leading the way for the Maccabees was junior
Tali Kletnicki who earned two points at the top courts. She teamed with senior
Elisheva Gofman to earn a hard-fought No. 1 doubles win, 8-5, and then won every game at the first singles flight.
Rookies
Shira Adler and
Micka Mimoun cruised to a No. 2 doubles win, 8-0. Adler returned to claim her No. 4 singles matchup, 6-1, 6-2. Seniors
Danya Parker and
Nicole Abittan dominated at No. 3 doubles, 8-1.
Junior
Liana Friedman was victorious in a competitive No. 3 singles battle, 6-4, 6-2. Newcomer
Sarah Leiderman won every game at No. 5 singles. First-year player
Sarah Grunseid won her No. 6 singles battle via a walkover.
"The women have had a great run these last few matches," Yeshiva University Head Coach
Danielle Carr said. "We are extremely proud of their recent success."
Prior to the match, Parker, Abittan, and Gofman were honored as graduating seniors during a senior night ceremony hosted by Yeshiva University. "Congratulations to the seniors on their accomplishments," Carr said. "Their commitment and dedication to the team deserved be recognized."
Yeshiva will return from the holiday break on Monday, October 24, for a Skyline showdown at Sarah Lawrence College. A potential berth in the Skyline Conference Championships could be on the line for the Maccabees in that matchup. First serve at the Sarah Lawrence College Tennis Courts is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
