FARMINGDALE, NY - Competing in the Skyline Conference Semifinals, the Yeshiva men's soccer team were downed by Farmingdale State College by a score of 3-2, seeing themselves knocked out of the postseason on Thursday, Nov. 2.
Offensively, the Maccabees' lone goal came from
Alejandro Saul, with the defender breathing life back into a floundering Mac squad with his 71st minute score.
On the defensive end, despite allowing two goals, keeper
Kellian Marty had a stellar night for the Macs, pulling off some excellent saves to ensure that Yeshiva's deficit did not grow any larger.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Farmingdale opened up the scoring early on, sneaking the ball past Marty in just the seventh minute to go up 1-0.
- The 1-0 scoreline would hold through the next 45 minutes of play, breaking only when the Macs' deficit doubled in the 53rd minute courtesy of another Rams score.
- The Macs finally struck back in the 71st minute, seeing Saul rocket a shot past the outstretched hand of the keeper to cut Yeshiva's margin to just one with twenty minutes left to play. Unfortunately however, Farmingdale's advantage proved insurmountable, as when the final horn sounded, Yeshiva still had just one goal to the Rams' two.
- YU were not without their chances to score a second time, recording 13 shots on the night including five that were on frame.
- Yeshiva's outing was complicated heavily by foul trouble, wracking up four yellows and two reds throughout the course of the game, leaving the Macs with just nine men out on the pitch by game's end.
