PATCHOGUE, NY - Losing their third straight conference matchup and fourth straight game, the Yeshiva women's basketball team fell to St. Joseph's University Long Island, losing to the Golden Eagles by a score of 68-47 on Tuesday, Nov. 28.
Offensively, the Maccabees once again saw an impressive performance out of senior leader
Daniella Bessler, as the Massachusetts native dropped 16 points, 10 rebounds and two assists on the night.
Bessler also had a dominant performance on the defensive end, notching three steals and three blocks on top of her already impressive scoring stats. Also stepping up for the Macs,
Jasmin Maly-Danker swatted down two blocks of her own, while
Shai Rahamim snagged two steals.
With the loss, the Macs are now 2-5, 2-3 in conference play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Macs fell behind early on in the first quarter, seeing SJLI jump out to an early 7-0 lead before a Bessler triple finally got Yeshiva on the board with 8:07 left to play.
- Unfortunately, these offensive woes would prove a trend, as points would be hard to come by for YU over the following 18 minutes. Through the proceeding two quarters, the Macs would just barely crack double digits, going into the half trailing 37-12.
- Kicking off the second half, the Macs saw more offensive success, putting up 18 points in the third quarter off of buckets from Bessler, Rahamim, Sara Yolkut and Yuval Nitzan. While this point total did prove more than SJLI's on the quarter, it did little to cut into YU's deficit, as Yeshiva went into the final period down 53-30.
- Much like the previous quarter, the Macs outscored St. Joseph's in the fourth, putting up 17 to the Golden Eagles' 15. This effort was for nought however, as Yeshiva's margin proved too great, ultimately falling, 68-47.
