NEW YORK, NY - Repping their seniors for Senior Day on a chilly Sunday afternoon, the Yeshiva women's soccer team showed out, downing Medgar Evers College by a score of 5-1, their largest margin of victory by far on the season.
Offensively, the Maccabees saw two first ever goal scorers, with
Alayna Higdon and
Leila Bakhshi both finding the back of the net for the first time in their Mac careers. Also putting up points for Yeshiva,
Leeby Levine and
Agam Halperin found paydirt, securing the Macs' first and fourth goals.
On the defensive end, despite ceding an early score, the Maccabee unit proved stout, allowing just two shots on the night, a season low for the squad.
With the win, the Macs close out their 2023 season with a record of 2-12.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- While the Macs conceded an early goal, finding themselves in a 1-0 hole just over five minutes into the game, they rebounded quickly, notching two quick scores off of the right feet of Halperin and Higdon. Higdon's goal proved particularly special, as the senior, who was playing in her last game as a Maccabee, secured her first ever score with a rocket of a shot.
- Following a brief stoppage due to lighting issues, the Macs got right back to business, extending their lead to 4-1 thanks to laser shots from Bakshi and Levine, a scoreline that held through the half.
- Going from a player with no goals to now a player with two, Higdon notched Yeshiva's lone second half score, securing the Macs' 5-1 victory.
