WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – The Yeshiva University men's volleyball team dropped two contests during a tri-match at King's College Pa. on Sunday afternoon. YU fell in straight sets to host-King's and then were defeated by a score of 3-0 to Immaculata University.
In the match against King's (17-0), set scores were 25-12, 25-17, and 25-12. The Maccabees (3-5) had brief 1-0 leads in the second and third sets, but the Monarchs took over the rest of the way in each stanza (plus a wire-to-wire victory in the first game) to earn the non-conference victory.
For Yeshiva, rookie middle blocker
Lavi Friedman produced five kills, three blocks, and a dig. Senior outside hitter
Shmuel Aberman added three kills, two blocks, and a dig. Classmate
Benjamin Smillie and senior libero
Avi Braun each produced three digs, with the former slamming home a kill. Senior outside hitter
Amitai Kolom registered a pair of kills with two blocks, two digs, and an assist. Second-year middle blocker
Eliezer Benjamin produced a duo of kills, a block, and a dig. Freshman setter
Eli Waxman led the team with 13 assists, while adding three digs. Junior middle blocker
Jonathan Werta scored a kill.
Against Immaculata (5-10), set scores were 25-19, 25-13, and 25-12. The Mighty Macs won the first set in wire-to-wire fashion. For the second match in a row, the Maccabees had early advantages in the second and third frames, but Immaculata went on big runs to make YU's leads become non-factors.
For YU, Smillie generated six kills, four digs, and an assist. Braun had a team-high seven digs. Kolom slammed home three kills, helped out on defense with five digs, scored a service ace, and produced a block. Benjamin nailed two aces, had a kill, and executed a dig. Waxman once again had 13 assists, while generating three digs, a kill, and a service ace. Friedman slammed home a pair of kills and recorded a block, while junior right side hitter
Eitan Cillo chipped in with three digs. Graduate right side hitter
Michael Stark helped out with a duo of digs. Aberman finished with a kill and three digs.
Yeshiva will take on Lehman College, inside APEX Main Gym, on Thursday evening. First serve is set for 8:00 p.m.
