RIVERDALE, N.Y. - Capturing their first victory of 2023, the Yeshiva men's soccer team defeated the College of Mount Saint Vincent, taking down the Dolphins by a score of 4-1 on Friday, Sept. 1.
Offensively, the Maccabees saw production across the board, with Andrea Lacche, Franco Busso,
Yonatan Reiter and
Josh Ziarno all finding the back of the net, as the team ended the day with 20 shots overall.
Equally as dominant on the defensive end, Yeshiva held the Dolphins to just ten shots, only five of which were on target. Even those balls that slipped past the defense were expertly turned away by Kellian Marty, who proved a brick wall in goal, racking up four saves on the day.
With the victory, the Maccabees pick up not only their first win of the season, improving to 1-0, but also their first win of head coach
Alan Weiss' tenure.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Coming out of the gate strong, Yeshiva smashed in their first goal 13 minutes into the contest, going up 1-0 thanks to a Lacche laser strike off of an assist from Tal Benhamou.
- Not taking their foot off the gas, the Maccabees doubled their advantage just three minutes later, this time with a well placed ball from Vinicius Giannacini perfectly setting up Busso for the score.
- While the Dolphins were able to somewhat stem the bleeding, finally getting on the board with 25 minutes left in the half, Yeshiva went into the break sporting a comfortable 2-1 lead.
- Not content to rest on their laurels, the Maccabees came charging into the second half. A rested Yeshiva side extended their lead to 3-1 thanks to a screamer from Reiter, firmly cementing the squad's chokehold on the game.
- Looking to definitely ice the contest, the Maccabees notched their fourth and final goal in the 84th minute off of the foot of Ziarno, securing their 4-1 victory.
