MADISON, N.J. - Kicking off the 2023-24 season on the road, the Yeshiva men's tennis team fell to Drew University, losing by a score of 8-1 on Thursday, Sept. 14.
Struggling early, the Maccabees dropped two of three doubles matches, carrying a 2-1 deficit into singles play. Unfortunately, Yeshiva were not able to turn around their fortunes in singles, falling in all six contests and leaving Madison with an 8-1 loss.
With the result, the Macs are 0-1 on the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Doubles:
- Getting off to a slow start, the Macs lost both their No. 1 and No. 2 seeded matches, seeing the pairs of David Cattan/Joshua Deutsch and Harry Radinsky/Pinny Balsam both fall by a score of 8-2.
- Turning their fortunes around slightly, Yeshiva got a win in the No. 3 slot, with the duo of Mark Adler/Samuel Pasternak taking down their opponents, 8-2. With the victory, the Macs went into singles play down only one point at 2-1.
Singles:
- Unfortunately, the Macs could not maintain the momentum from their late doubles success, as Adler (6-2, 6-2), Cattan (6-1, 6-1), Radinsky (6-3, 6-2), Balsam (6-2, 6-3) and Eliav Sacknovitz (6-4, 6-4) all fell in straight sets.
- Pasternak put up more of a fight than his teammates in the No. 6 seeded match, forcing a third and decisive set after splitting the first two with his Drew counterpart. However, running out of gas, the junior dropped the final set, ultimately falling by a score of 5-7, 6-1, 1-10.
