FARMINGDALE, NY - Still looking for their first win in the new year, the Yeshiva women's basketball team fell to Farmingdale State College, losing to the Rams by a score of 74-51 on Thursday, Jan. 25.
Offensively, the Maccabees saw two double-digit performances, with
Shai Rahamim leading the way with 22 points, while the always-reliable
Daniella Bessler slotted in with 14.
Bessler also had an excellent day on the defensive end of the ball, blocking two shots, while fellow starter
Yuval Nitzan led the team with two steals.
Proving forces on the glass, both Nitzan and
Abigail Koenig put up solid numbers in the rebound column, with Nitzan pulling down nine while Koenig snagged a season-high mark of seven.
With the loss, the Macs are now 6-11, 5-8 in conference play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- While early baskets gave Farmingdale a quick lead, buckets from Bessler, Rahamin and Jasmin Maly-Danker ensured a competitive quarter from the Macs. After ten minutes, YU trailed by six at 16-10.
- Yeshiva's offensive struggles continued in the second quarter. The Macs scored just two points over six minutes, over which time the Rams managed 10, jumping out to a 17-point advantage at 29-12. A late YU run finally got some additional digits on the scoreboard off of buckets from Bessler and Rahamim, yet by the time the halftime horn sounded the Maccabees had only scored 21 points to Farmingdale's 40.
- Coming out of halftime raring to go, Yeshiva's offense finally clicked. The Macs proceeded to chip away at Farmingdale's advantage throughout the third quarter, reducing what was a 22-point lead down to just 15 once time expired in the period.
- Despite the effort however, YU's deficit proved insurmountable, seeing the Maccabees fall to their Skyline rival by a score of 74-51.
