Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Samet Joins 1,000-Point Club as Men’s Basketball Rolls Over Manhattanville

NEW YORK, NY - Avenging their only conference loss so far this season, the Yeshiva men's basketball team took down Skyline rival Manhattanville College, defeating the Valiants by a score of 72-59 on Tuesday, Jan. 30.

Helmed by a quartet of potent attackers, the Maccabees saw four double-digit performances. Dothan Bardichev (17), Zevi Samet (16) and Roy Itcovichi (15) all put up their stellar numbers in a starting role, while Yoav Oselka dropped 10 points in 15 minutes off the bench.

On top of his impressive point total, Bardichev also proved a force on the glass, grabbing ten rebounds and securing himself a double-double.

After dropping 16 tonight, Samet now has 1,013 career points, joining the YU 1,000 point club as just the 32nd member in the program's long history. The New York native is in his second year as a Maccabee, accomplishing this feat in just 46 games.

With the win, the Macs are now 13-7, 10-1 in conference play.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Both squads traded baskets back and forth to open up the first half, seeing the lead change hands six times over the first ten minutes of play. However, that sixth swing, a fast break three-pointer from Adi Markovich that put the Maccabees up 17-14, proved the final time the pendulum of the game would make its way back to YU, as the Macs would never again surrender their advantage.

  • Over the final ten minutes of the period, Yeshiva would continue to grow their edge, relying on the sharpshooting of Itcovichi, Samet and Bardichev to balloon their advantage into the double-digits. By the time the halftime horn sounded, the Macs sported a comfortable 12-point lead at 34-22.

  • Not taking their foot off the gas to start the second half, YU continued to grow their margin, cracking the 20-point mark for the first time just over five minutes into play.

  • While Yeshiva's lead would fluctuate over the remaining 15 minutes, it would never shrink below 13 points, as the Macs grabbed their 10th conference win of the year with a 72-59 victory.
