PURCHASE, NY - Playing in their final regular season game, the Yeshiva Men's Soccer Team took down Manhattanville University, defeating the Valiant by a score of 2-1 on Wednesday, Oct. 30.
Offensively, the Maccabees were led by the trio of
Lotan Sapir,
Franco Busso and
Ivan Zirlinger, with Sapir and Busso both finding the back of the net, while Zirlinger assisted on both scores.
Defensively,
Kellian Marty and his unit smothered the Manhattanville attack, holding the Valiant to just six shots on goal while racking up five saves.
With the win, the Macs close out the regular season with a record of 5-5-2, 5-4-2 in conference play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- While both squads were held scoreless through the first 25 minutes of play, the Valiant finally broke the deadlock in the 26th, sneaking a ball past Marty to take a 1-0 lead.
- Despite this early deficit, the Maccabees remained unphased, leveling the score at 1-all just before half when Sapir snagged a pass from Zirlinger and screamed it past the Valiant keeper.
- Yeshiva quickly expanded their lead just three minutes into the second half, going up 2-1 thanks to the right foot of Franco Busso.
- While the Maccabee offense was held scoreless through the final 42 minutes of play, the defense stepped up to protect the lead, holding the Valiant to just two shots on goal, securing the 2-1 victory.
