WOOSTER, OH - Suffering their first loss of the season, the Yeshiva men's basketball team fell to The College of Wooster, losing to the Fighting Scots by a score of 85-64 on Sunday, Nov. 10.
Offensively, the Maccabees saw four players scoring in double digits, with
Zevi Samet (14),
Yoav Oselka (14),
Max Zakheim (10) and
Or Sundjyvsky (10) all handling the rock well for YU.
The defensive side of the ball saw effort distributed up and down the depth chart. Five different players snatched a steal on the night, both Zakheim and
Luke Cronin recorded a block, and seven players pulled down three or more rebounds.
With the loss, the Macs are now 1-1 on the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The first four minutes of play saw both squads trade buckets back and forth, with the score tied at 9-all with 15:50 remaining in the period. From there however, Wooster was able to secure some breathing room, taking advantage of YU's turnover troubles to lead by as many as nine at 28-19 with 7:26 remaining.
- Intent on going into the half on better footing, Yeshiva rallied in the final five minutes of play. Nine points from Oselka, combined with a YU defensive effort that held the Scots to just four, drew the Macs even with Wooster, with both sides going into the break knotted up at 37-37.
- Despite Yeshiva's late surge at the end of the first half, the second started with Wooster reclaiming their lead, going on to extend it into double digits at 53-42 with 14:45 remaining. While solid scoring from Samet, Sundjyvsky and Osleka kept YU competitive, the Macs were simply not able to match Wooster's offensive output, ultimately dropping the game, 85-64.
