FARMINGDALE, NY - Taking on their final conference opponent of 2024, the Yeshiva Women's Basketball Team fell to Farmingdale State College, losing to the Rams by a score of 49-41 on Tuesday, Dec. 10.
Offensively, the Maccabees saw two players score in double digits. A double-double from
Daniella Bessler led the way for the women in white and blue, with the grad student putting up 17 points and ten rebounds, while
Shai Rahamim rallied for 12 points of her own.
On the defensive side of the ball,
Fortune Hanan proved a monster in the paint, blocking six shots over just 24 minutes of play, tied for third most in program history.
Naomi Sigman also had herself a day inside, pulling down a personal best 12 rebounds.
With the loss, the Macs are now 0-9, 0-6 in conference play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Both squads traded baskets back and forth over the first five minutes of play, with the scoreboard reading 6-5 in favor of YU with 4:51 remaining. Sparked by a deep three from Simone Amkraut, the Maccabees would then break away, embarking on a 9-2 run that saw Yeshiva up, 15-7, come the end of the quarter.
- The Macs would further extend their lead to kick off the second quarter, growing it out to 12 at 23-11 with 3:59 on the clock. While Farmingdale buckets would pull that margin back into single-digits to close out the period, the Maccabees still carried a comfortable 26-18 edge into the halftime break.
- Yeshiva's lead was heavily contested throughout the third quarter, seeing it shrunk to as few as two points at 31-29. However, despite the Farmingdale onslaught, the Maccabee offense held firm, as stellar shooting from Bessler and Rahamim sustained a 37-33 advantage heading into the fourth quarter.
- Despite consistent output throughout the game, YU's offense collapsed in the fourth quarter, only managing four points over ten minutes. The Mac lead held through the first five minutes thanks to stellar defense from Sigman and Hanan, but could not weather Farmingdales dynamic offense, with the Rams seizing an advantage for the first time since the first quarter at 41-39. Unable to respond, the Maccabees ultimately fell, 49-41.
