Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men’s Basketball Suffers Second Ranked Loss, Falls at #7 NYU

NEW YORK, NY - Taking on their second consecutive nationally ranked opponent, the Yeshiva Men's Basketball Team Fell to #7 New York University, losing to the Violets by a score of 89-53 on Thursday, Dec. 12.

Offensively, the Maccabees were helmed by Max Zakheim, with the standout senior guard tallying a team-leading mark of 15 points on the night.

On the defensive side of the ball, Yeshiva saw a stellar performance out of Jonathan Levy, as the first-year player recorded two blocks and two rebounds in just 19 minutes of play.

With the loss, the Macs are now 3-3 on the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Both squads traded baskets through the first two minutes of play, with buckets from Luke Cronin and Zakheim keeping YU competitive at 8-6. From there however, NYU's high-powered offense quickly broke away, jumping out to a 14-point lead at 22-8 with 10:57 remaining.

  • Yeshiva responded with a layup from Effy Freundlich that finally broke the Macs into double digits at 22-10. The Maccabees continued to push, lowering NYU's edge to 24-16, an eight-point margin they managed to achieve three separate times throughout the period. Despite these efforts, the men in blue and white could not get closer than eight points to the Violets, with NYU pushing their lead back into double digits to close out the half. The Macs went into the locker room down, 47-32.

  • Stellar shooting from Cronin and Zakheim continued to put up points for the Maccabees come the second half, yet the offensive duo could not equal the #7 team in the nation's output. NYU's lead eclipsed 20 points at 60-38 with 15:43 remaining, a margin they would only dip below once more throughout the rest of the game.

  • NYU's advantage continued to grow throughout the remainder of the period, and while Hillel Baynash and Ezra Sicklick tallied their first points of the season with a pair of layups, the Maccabees could not wrest control of the game from a dominant Violet squad. By the time the final horn sounded, Yeshiva left their downtown rivals' gym with an 89-53 loss.
