Game Recap: Men's Volleyball |

Men’s Volleyball Drops Pair of Games at King’s Tri-Match

WILKES-BARRE, PA - Wrapping up their non-conference schedule, the Yeshiva men's volleyball team lost a pair of contests at the King's Tri-Match, falling to King's College (PA) and Saint Elizabeth University by scores of 0-3, 0-3 on Sunday, Feb. 25.

Offensively, the Maccabees saw another masterclass out of Lavi Friedman, with the 6-4 senior tallying team high marks of three and seven kills in games one and two respectively.

Defensively, Yeshiva was helmed by Eitan Cillo, as the New Jersey native recorded six digs and a block on the day.

With the results, the Macs are now 0-10.

HOW IT HAPPENED - Game 1 vs King's College (L, 0-3)
  • The Macs jumped out to an early lead in set number one, with consecutive kills from Jonathan Werta and Andrew Pinchot securing a 3-0 edge for YU. This momentum would not last however, as a 13-3 King's run not only stripped Yeshiva of their lead, but buried the men in blue and white in a six-point hole. That deficit would prove insurmountable, as despite kills from Eli Waxman and Jarrett Lazarus, the Macs dropped the set, 25-12.

  • Much like the first set, YU were able to keep things competitive to kick off the second, anchoring their opponent within two points at 7-5. It was then however that King's were able to run away with the contest, outsourcing the Macs by a margin of 18-7 to take the set, 25-12.

  • While a Werta kill gave the Macs a 1-0 lead in set three, that would prove the last time YU held any advantage in the match, as King's proceeded to win the set by a score of 25-11, and the match by a score of 3-0.

MAC LEADERS
  • Kills: Friedman (3), Pinchot (3), Werta (2)
  • Aces: Baker (2), Waxman (1)
  • Blocks: Cillo (1), Pinchot (1)
  • Assists: Waxman (9), Lesnoy (1), Pinchot (1)

HOW IT HAPPENED - Game 2 vs Saint Elizabeth University (L, 0-3)
  • An early Pinchot kill managed to level set one at 1-all, yet Saint Elizabeth proceeded to take full control of the period, outpacing the Macs by a score of 25-11.

  • The Eagles continued their dominance in set number two, seeing the scoreboard read 18-5 following the first 23 serves. While a 6-0 YU run managed to push the Macs' point total into the double digits, slashing their deficit to just seven at 18-11, Saint Elizabeth's grip on the set proved insurmountable, as Yeshiva fell, 25-12.

  • Looking to prove that they can compete with the best of the best, the Macs came to play in the third and final set, refusing to allow the Eagles any semblance of breathing room through the first half of the period. Led by the offensive firepower of Werta and Friedman, YU tied the game up multiple times at 18-all and 21-all, eventually seizing their first lead of the set at 23-22 off of an Eagle attack error. However, despite reaching 25 points first, it was the need to win by two that proved Yeshiva's downfall, as three straight Saint Elizabeth points closed out the set, 27-25, and the match, 3-0.
