NEW YORK, NY - Playing in their second of three matches this week, the Yeshiva men's volleyball team fell to Purchase College, losing to the Panthers by a score of 3-0 on Wednesday, Mar. 13.
Offensively, the Maccabees were led by
Andrew Pinchot and
Zanvy Lesnoy, with Pinchot tallying five kills, while Lesnoy led the team with six assists on the night.
On the defensive end of the ball, Pinchot partnered with
Lavi Friedman to form a stout duo, as both slammed down two blocks.
With the loss, the Macs are now 0-19, 0-10 in conference play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- While a service ace to open the match handed Yeshiva an early lead, neither team was able to pick up any sort of meaningful advantage, trading points back and forth until the scoreboard read 11-9 in favor of Purchase. It was then that the Panthers were able to gain real separation, outsourcing YU, 14-7, and taking the set, 25-16.
- Looking to rebound from the first set, the Macs opened the second by jumping out to a dominant lead, seizing a 6-1 margin thanks to a pair of kills from Pinchot. This early success would not last however, as an 8-2 Purchase run erased Yeshiva's edge, one which they would not recover. From there , the Macs would be held to just three more kills and five more points, dropping the period, 25-13.
- Down but certainly not out, the Maccabees continued to fight in set number three. YU held Purchase's white-hot offense in check throughout the first half of the period, seeing the score read 14-12 26 serves in. The Macs would continue to push, coming within one point of their conference rival on two separate occasions, once at 19-18, and then again at 20-19. Despite the effort, a 5-1 PC run proved the end of YU's comeback hopes, with Yeshiva dropping the set, 25-20, and the match, 3-0.
