BRONX, NY - Picking up their second win of the 2023-24 season, the Yeshiva men's tennis team dominated John Jay College, taking down the Bloodhounds by a score of 7-2 on Monday, Mar. 19.
The Maccabees began their strong run early on, winning two of the three doubles matches and jumping out to a 2-1 lead headed into singles. Yeshiva further cemented their stranglehold on the contest in singles play, winning all but one matchup to take the dual match, 7-2.
With the win, the Macs are now 2-5 on the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Doubles:
- Yeshiva kicked off the dual match with a nail-biting victory in the No. 1 seeded match, as the duo of David Cattan/Israel Bussu outlasted their Bloodhound opponents, 8(10)-7(8).
- While YU fell in the No. 2 match, the pair of Joshua Deutsch/Pinny Balsam picked up the Macs their second point in the third seeded match, downing their foes by a score of 8-1.
- With the two wins, the Maccabees went into singles play up, 2-1.
Singles:
- Yeshiva continued to roll in singles, racking up efficient wins in the two, three, four, five and six slots.
- Bussu (6-1, 6-0), Deutsch (6-0, 6-1), Ronen Rozenman (6-4, 6-3), Elan Goldstein (6-1, 6-0) and Eliav Sacknovitz (6-0, 6-0) all dominated for the Macs, winning their matches in straight sets.
- With the five singles points, YU easily ran away with the match, burying John Jay, 7-2.
