Mahwah, NJ - Losing their second Skyline contest of the week, the Yeshiva men's volleyball team fell to Ramapo College, falling to the Roadrunners by a score of 3-0 on Thursday, Mar. 8.
Offensively, the Maccabees were helmed by
Jonathan Werta and
Eli Waxman, with Werta leading the team with a mark of six kills on the night, while Waxman served up 12 assists.
Both Werta and Waxman also had a stellar night on the defensive side of the ball, putting up 10 and 7 digs respectively.
With the loss, the Macs are now 0-15, 0-6 in conference play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Macs struggled early on in the first set, seeing Ramapo put up nine points before they were able to get on the board. While kills from Werta, Waxman Jarrett Lazarus and Andrew Pinchot managed to extend YU's point total into the double digits, the effort proved too little to catch up to the Roadrunner attack, as Yeshiva fell, 25-12.
- Looking to turn things around in set number two, the Macs took their first lead of the match at 1-0 off a thundering Pinchot kill. Yeshiva continued to go blow-for-blow with Ramapo through the first ten serves of the period, overcoming multiple lead changes and tying the game twice, once at 3-all and once at 5-all. However, it was then that the Roadrunners began to pull away, as an 8-2 run shunted YU into a 13-7 hole. While consecutive kills from Werta closed that deficit to just three at 14-11, that would prove the closest the Macs would get to catching their opponents, ultimately dropping the set, 25-14.
- Seeking to mimic their early success in the second set, Yeshiva opened the third with a 7-6 lead, taking full advantage of kills from Pinchot, Werta and Zanvy Lesnoy to rocket themselves out in front. However, despite their best efforts, a shorthanded YU squad simply could not keep up with one of the top teams in the conference. Held to just seven more points and no more kills, Yeshiva lost the set, 25-14, and the match, 0-3.
