MAHWAH, NJ - Facing off against their final Skyline opponent of the season, the Yeshiva men's volleyball team fell to Ramapo College, losing to the Roadrunners by a score of 3-0 on Tuesday, Apr. 2.
Offensively, the Maccabees were led by the duo of
Jonathan Werta and
Eli Waxman, with Werta notching eight kills while Waxman served up a team-leading mark of 16 assists.
Waxman also had a stellar outing on the defensive end of the ball, tallying nine digs on the night.
With the loss, the Macs are now 1-26, 1-17 in conference play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Yeshiva fell behind early in set number one, seeing Ramapo race out to an 18-6 lead despite kills from Werta and Yaakov Baker. While the Macs were able to crack a double-digit point total, the effort was not enough to slow the Roadrunner attack, as YU fell, 25-12.
- Having shaken off any rust in the first set, the Macs came out swinging in the second, putting up three points before Ramapo had a chance to respond. Yeshiva would protect their advantage over the next eight points, only to see it snatched away by a 7-1 Roadrunner run that buried the men in blue and white in a 12-7 hole. Undeterred, YU fought back, embarking on a dominant 11-3 run of their own, rocketing out to an 18-15 edge. While Ramapo would once again close the gap between the two squads over the next few points, both teams would continue to fight in a dead heat, with neither able to gain any meaningful separation in between the 18th point and the 24th point. Back-to-back kills from Werta and Baker set the Macs up with a 24-23 lead and a set point, only for the effort to be doused by the lethal roadrunner attack, as three straight Ramapo scores downed YU, 26-24.
- While they fought hard, an undermanned Yeshiva team could not stand up to one of the top teams in the conference in set three. The Macs were held to 11 points and three kills, as Yeshiva dropped the set, 25-11, and the match, 3-0.
