PALISADES PARK, NJ - Taking on their final opponent of the 2024 season, the Yeshiva baseball team fell to Purchase College, losing to the Panthers by scores of 18-1 and 20-0 on Monday, May 6.
The Maccabees' most successful bats came via the pair of
Joshua Mintz and
Jacob Shakin, with Mintz tallying three hits and a run, while Shakin knocked in three hits and an RBI.
From the mound,
Coby Kamish had a successful night in game two, tossing five strikeouts over two innings while allowing just three hits and four runs.
With the result, the Macs close out the year with a record of 0-26, 0-20 in conference play.
HOW IT HAPPENED - Game 1 (L, 18-1)
- Yeshiva managed to keep the contest close through the first inning, surrendering just two runs in the top of the period, while tallying one of their own in the bottom. After singling to left center and advancing to second on a groundout, Mintz scored on a Shakin double to centerfield, slashing YU's deficit in half and drawing the team within one run of their conference opponents.
- However, while the Macs were able to hold the Panthers to just three runs through the first four innings, this level of defensive success would not last, with Purchase tallying five runs in the fifth, three in the sixth and seven in the seventh.
- Yeshiva were not without their chances to put up more points. In the bottom of the sixth, the Macs loaded the bases with one out, with a pair of singles and a walk putting Noam Ouanounou, Asaf Perl and Shakin all in prime scoring position. However, all three runners would be left stranded, with a foul out and a strikeout proving the end of the inning.
