Women’s Volleyball Downed by Mount Saint Mary in Final Match of September

NEWBURGH, NY - Taking on their final opponent of September, the Yeshiva Women's Volleyball Team fell to Mount Saint Mary College, losing to the Knights by a score of 3-0 on Thursday, Sept. 26.
 
Offensively, the Maccabees were helmed by the duo of Elle Ohayon and Moriah Berkovitch, with each outside hitter tallying four kills on the night.
 
Ohayon also had a stellar outing on the defensive side of the ball, teaming up with Ashley Botnick to scoop up 26 digs between the two of them.
 
With the loss, the Macs are now 2-9, 0-7 in conference play.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Both squads traded points back and forth over the first dozen serves, seeing the score level at 6-all. Kills from Botnick and Naomi Harpaz finally broke through for YU, giving the Maccabees some breathing room at 12-9, before a 10-3 MSM run stripped that advantage away, burying the Macs in a 19-15 deficit. Yeshiva fought back, drawing within two at 19-17, but could not stave off another Knight onslaught, dropping the period by a score of 25-17.
     
  • Unlike the first, the Macs started slow in the second set, seeing the Knights put up eight points before they could get on the board. Yeshiva finally tallied points thanks to kills from Ohayon and Harpaz, but could not keep up with the dynamic MSM attack, ultimately falling, 25-12.
     
  • While Mount Saint Mary jumped out to an early lead in the third set, Yeshiva fought back, grinding their way to a 6-5 advantage thanks to a pair of kills from Ohayon. This lead would change three more times over the next dozen serves, seeing the score tied at 10-all before Mount Saint Mary stole it away for good with a 6-0 run. While YU continued to fight, coming within two at 20-18, five straight Knight kills shut down any hopes of a comeback, closing out the set, 25-18.
