Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Late-Game Rally Comes Up Short as Men’s Basketball Falls at Farmingdale

NEW YORK, NY - Dropping just their second conference matchup of the season, the Yeshiva Men's Basketball Team fell to Farmingdale State College, losing to the Rams by a score of 67-66 on Wednesday, Jan. 29.

Offensively, the Maccabees were led by Or Sundjyvsky, as the junior forward put up a season-high 19 points on 26 minutes off the bench. Sundyvsky came just one board short of a double-double, posting another season-high mark of nine rebounds.

Two other Macs scored in double digits, with Zevi Samet notching 18 and Dothan Bardichev slotting in 12.

On top of his offensive output, Samet also had a stellar night on the defensive end, leading the team with a season-high five steals, on top of four rebounds.

With the loss, the Macs are now 10-8 on the year, 7-2 in conference play.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Maccabees fell behind early to kick off the first half, trailing 13-6 after just four and a half minutes of play. A Samet layup six minutes later finally lifted the Maccabee point total into the double-digits, yet YU still could not catch their conference foe, staring up at a seven-point deficit at 17-10.

  • Undeterred by the margin between the two squads, the Maccabees continued to push, closing within three at 19-16 with 6:45 left of the clock thanks to baskets from Sundjyvsky and Effy Freundlich. While this margin would not hold, the YU defense limited Farmingdale to just nine points over the final seven minutes of the half, going into the break down, 28-22.

  • Farmingdale re-established control of the game come the start of the second half, growing their advantage out to double-digits at 40-30 less than five minutes into the half. This lead would only grow over the next ten minutes, stretching out to as much as 15-points at 57-42 with 6:11 remaining in regulation.

  • Despite being down to their historic conference rival, the Maccabees surged. Spurred on by two back-to-back layups from Luke Cronin and a deep three from Sundjyvsky, Yeshiva began to whittle away at the Farmingdale lead. Basket after basket continued to slice into YU's deficit, with a 21-8 run getting the Macs within two at 65-63 with 1:20 left on the clock.

  • However, Yeshiva's miracle run would come to an end there, with a missed layup and costly Maccabee turnover resulting in two Ram foul shots that stretched YU's deficit back out to four. A buzzer-beating three from Sundjyvsky was not enough to overcome the deficit, as the Maccabees left Farmingdale with a 67-66 loss.
