Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Career Nights From Hanan, Maly-Danker Not Enough to Carry Women’s Basketball Over SJBK

BROOKLYN, NY - Taking the court for the first time in 2025, the Yeshiva Women's Basketball Team fell to St. Joseph's University Brooklyn, losing to the Bears by a score of 63-60 on Wednesday, Jan. 8th.

Offensively, the Maccabees were helmed by the two-headed dragon of Daniella Bessler and Jasmin Maly-Danker, with each putting up 20 points on the night, a personal best for Maly-Danker. Also proving her skill with the rock, Shai Rahamim tallied 12 points, along with seven assists.

On the defensive end, Yeshiva saw a monstrous performance out of Fortune Hanan, with the sophomore forward establishing herself as queen of the paint with four blocks and a career-high 15 rebounds.

With the result, the Macs are now 0-12, 0-7 in conference play.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Both squads traded baskets back-and forth throughout the first quarter, seeing the lead change hands four times over ten minutes of play. Thanks to the shooting of Bessler and Rahamim, the Maccabees came out ahead in the exchange, outscoring the Bears by a margin of 19-16 and carrying a three points lead into the break.

  • Despite surrendering the advantage briefly at the top of the second quarter, Yeshiva's hold on the game remained steady, leading by as many as eight points at 30-22. While that margin was slowly whittled away over the final minutes of the period, the Macs still carried a 32-31 edge going into halftime.

  • Much like the first half, the teams opened the second trading baskets, seeing the lead change hands five times over the quarter. A Maly-Danker jumper gave the Macs a 43-42 edge with 44 seconds remaining, but it would not hold, as the Bears ended the period up, 45-43.

  • The Macs once again rallied from an early deficit in the fourth quarter, going from down eight points to tying the game at 54-all with 5:13 remaining. However, the women in blue and white would never regain the lead. Trailing by three with seven seconds remaining, the Maccabees had a chance to send the game into overtime, but turned the ball over, squashing any hopes of a comeback and ending the game at 63-60.
