NEW YORK, NY - Taking on the best team in DIII and the defending NCAA national champions, the Yeshiva Men's Basketball Team fell to #1 Trinity College, losing to the Bantams by a score of 76-52 on Thursday, Nov. 20th.
Offensively, the Maccabees saw one player score in double digits, with
Zevi Samet tallying 14 points on the night.
On the defensive side of the ball, big man
Dothan Bardichev had a stellar outing for YU, tying a personal best with three blocks.
With the result, the Macs are now 0-4 on the year.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Defenses dominated early on in the first half, with both squads managing just 13 combined points through the first five minutes of play. While Trinity would pull away slightly, going up by five at 12-7 with 13:24 remaining, the Macs refused to let their nationally ranked foe run away with the game. Yeshiva fought back, tying the contest at 12 on a Yair Dovrat free throw, before taking a 15-14 lead just a minute later on a deep Dovrat three.
- The two teams went blow for blow over the next two minutes, seeing the lead change twice more before settling at 18-all with 9:41 remaining. However, it was then that Trinity established a hold on the game they would never again relinquish. The Bantams went up 20-18 on a layup, swinging the pendulum back in their favor one final time.
- Over the following five minutes, the Maccabee offense stumbled, only managing five points while Trinity pushed their lead into double digits at 34-23. This margin would hold into the half, as the Macs trailed 41-29 at the break.
- The usually potent Yeshiva offense struggled in the second half, only putting up three points through the first nine minutes of play. A deep three from Samet at 9:43 broke their scoring drought, and while two foul shots from Ari Shklyar pushed their point total for the period into the double digits, the game was already out of hand. Trailing by 30 at 70-40 with 4:05 left in regulation, the Maccabees could only chip away at the mountainous Bantam lead. Buckets from Tom Valdman, Hillel Baynash, and Asher Falk could only do so much, as the Macs ultimately fell by a score of 76-52.
