NEW YORK, NY - Taking the court for the final time in the 2025 season, the Yeshiva Women's Volleyball Team took down York College, defeating the Cardinals by a score of 3-1 on Thursday, Nov. 6th.
Before the game, the Maccabees took the chance to thank the graduating seniors for their contributions to the program, honoring:
Shany Elmaleh,
Shira Pfeiffer,
Progress Gasa, and
Rebecca Siegel on Senior Night.
Offensively, the Macs were led by the ever-reliable duo of
Elle Ohayon and Elmaleh, with Ohayon tallying 12 kills while Elmaleh tossed up 14 assists.
On the defensive side of the ball, libero
Emma Lieber had a monster night for YU, tallying a new personal best 29 digs.
With the win, the Macs close out their season with a record of 3-14.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Yeshiva broke out early in the first set, jumping to a 12-7 lead behind a trio of Ohayon kills. While York fought back, closing within three points at 18-15, and four at 22-18, the effort was not enough to stop the inexorable YU train, with the women in blue and white taking the period, 25-20.
- Capitalizing on their momentum, YU put up a truly dominant performance in set two. The Macs were in control from the get-go, notching 16 points before York could tally their third. The Cardinals would only manage eight points throughout the period, while the Macs tallied eight points on kills alone. By the time the dust cleared, Yeshiva had taken the set by a score of 25-8, their most lopsided win all season.
- Content with their lead, the Macs took their foot off the gas in set three, and paid the price. Despite an early 3-0 edge, YU quickly fell behind, trailing by as many as seven points at 12-5. While Yeshiva continued to push, drawing within one at 14-13, they would never regain their advantage, ultimately falling, 25-19.
- Locking back in, the Maccabees returned to their dominant ways in set four, quickly jumping out to a 16-2 lead behind kills from Ohayon and Eden Fitoussi. A 7-0 Cardinal run would break York's point total into double digits at 17-10, but the Macs would not be denied their victory, taking the period, 25-16.
