NEW YORK, NY - The Yeshiva University's Men's Volleyball team continued non-conference play with a local matchup against the John Jay College Bloodhounds, dropping the match 3-0 on Tuesday, February 11th.
Offensively, the strong duo of
Zanvy Lesnoy and
Amiti Trabelsi each recorded an ace and an assist, contributing to the team's offensive efforts. Also making an impact was
Massimo Bertini, who added a kill to the mix.
Leading the way defensively,
Jonathan Werta held down the back row with 4 digs on the night.
With the loss, the Macs are now 0-4.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Set one started off slow for the Maccabees, as they allowed the Bloodhounds to jump out to a quick 10-0 run. However, Yeshiva responded with a kill from Bertini, starting to find their rhythm. They added to their momentum with another two points from Bloodhound errors, narrowing the gap. However, that would be the last of their points for the set, as John Jay served up aces and finished with a dominant 12-0 run. The Maccabees were handed their first set loss, 25-3.
- Hoping to turn things around in the next set, Yeshiva was able to score first. However, errors on the Maccabees' side allowed the Bloodhounds to jump out to a 4-1 lead early on. A kill from Amiti Trabelsi secured Yeshiva's sixth point of the set, but by then, the Bloodhounds had already built a lead of more than 10. The set ended with the Maccabees falling 25-8.
- The Maccabees began set three by scoring the first point and kept it close, with a kill from Lesnoy tying the set at 3-all. However, despite Yeshiva's defensive efforts, they were unable to stop the Bloodhounds' offensive powerhouses, allowing them to go on another run, with the score quickly jumping to 16-5. More determined than ever, the Maccabees refused to go down without a fight. They battled point for point, with both teams capitalizing on each other's errors, keeping the set competitive despite John Jay's lead. Unable to come out on top, the Maccabees ultimately fell short, with the Bloodhounds securing the match with a 25-16 victory in the third set.
