Women’s Basketball Rolls Old Westbury, Picks Up Fourth Conference Win

BRONX, NY - Sweeping the season series, the Yeshiva Women's Basketball Team took down The College at Old Westbury, dominating the Panthers by a score of 76-30 on Tuesday, Feb. 11th.

Offensively, the Maccabees saw four players score in double digits, with Daniella Bessler (17), Tali Cohen (16), Naomi Sigman (13) and Simone Amkraut (10) all proving lethal with the ball in their hands.

On the defensive side of the ball, Yeshiva was led by Hannah Rashty, with the junior center pulling down a career best 11 rebounds.

The Maccabees welcomed new blood onto the court versus the Panthers. Mia Denti made her season debut with four points, six rebounds, one block and one steal, while Lily Hullman made her career debut with two rebounds and one assist.

With the win, the Macs improve to 4-16, 4-11 in conference play.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Maccabees dominated the first quarter, putting up 24 points on baskets from Sigman, Bessler, Cohen, Jasmin Maly-Danker and Shai Rahamim. Even more impressively, the Yeshiva defensive unit completely shut out Old Westbury, not allowing a single Panther point and securing the Macs a 24-0 lead by the end of the period.

  • Yeshiva's advantage only grew come the second quarter, with the offense running like a well-oiled machine to the tune of 19 points. While Old Westbury finally got on the board, the Maccabee defense continued to hold them in check, with YU headed into the half up, 43-9.

  • The third quarter proved the tightest of the game, with the Macs only outscoring their opponent by a margin of 15-12. However, with their considerable preexisting lead, Yeshiva still carried a 58-21 edge into the final period.

  • The Macs continued their dominant ways throughout the final ten minutes of play, growing their advantage out past 40 points in the fourth quarter. Once the final buzzer sounded, Yeshiva walked out of the Bronx with a blowout 76-30 win.
