Roller Hockey Sweeps Final Regular Season Weekend

OLD BETHPAGE, NY - The Yeshiva University Maccabees roller hockey team, reigning NCRHA national champions, wrapped up their regular season with a Sunday sweep, defeating the University of Vermont, Stony Brook University, and Penn State University at Skate Safe in Old Bethpage, NY. The Macs finished 10-5-1 and secured the fourth seed for the upcoming ECRHA regionals in Broomall, Pennsylvania, from February 28 to March 1.

The day kicked off with a 7 AM tilt against Vermont, and while the Macs started slow, they woke up in the second period. Jacob Diner got things rolling 7:55 into the game, followed by Ariel Greenberg connecting twice off feeds from Sol Feder for a 3-0 lead. Diner added another goal before Feder beat the buzzer with nine seconds left in the period. Feder kept the momentum going into the third, scoring just 1:17 in off a pass from Diner. All-star Gabriel Rosenblatt capped off the scoring as the Macs cruised to a 7-1 win.

Next up was a 9 AM rematch with Stony Brook, who had stunned the Macs 7-6 in overtime after falling behind 6-3, back in November. This time, YU came out firing. Greenberg set up Ezra Csillag to open the scoring, and Rosenblatt found Benji Froom to make it 2-0 after one period. Feder hammered home a power-play clapper in the second, and Froom added another to extend the lead to 4-0. Stony Brook pushed back, but Andrew Srulowitz stood tall with 25 saves. Rosenblatt connected with Feder for one more tally, sealing a commanding 5-1 victory.

The final game against #3 seed Penn State at 11 AM was a barnburner. The Nittany Lions struck first, but Diner and Feder responded quickly. Penn State pulled ahead 4-2 midway through the second, but the Macs' power play took over. Diner scored after a turnover, Greenberg hit Froom to pull even, and after Penn State briefly regained the lead, Feder answered 19 seconds later to tie things at five heading into the third. YU capitalized on more power plays, with Feder finding Greenberg and then feeding Diner to give the Macs a 7-5 lead. Penn State fought back, but with 3:31 left, Diner threaded the needle to Froom for the game-winner, sealing an 8-7 triumph and the Sunday sweep.

Feder finished with two goals, three assists, and 10 points across the three games, earning first-star honors. Diner recorded a hat trick against Penn State, while Froom wrapped up the regular season with 21 goals and 31 points in 12 games. Feder matched that total with 18 goals and 13 assists in just 11 games. Diner (13-4-17), Greenberg (6-11-17), and Csillag (8-9-17) all finished with 17 points.
