BRYN ATHYN, PA - The Yeshiva Men's Volleyball opened their 2025 season on the road to play a double-header against Bryn Athyn College, ultimately losing both contests to the Lions by scores of 0-3 and 0-3 on Sunday, February 2nd.
Offensively, the Maccabees were led by
Jonathan Werta and
Amiti Trabelsi. Werta tallied 6 kills and an ace over both matches, while Trabelsi proved a valuable distributor of the ball with 11 assists.
Werta also came up strong on the defensive end for the Macs, notching 13 digs. Outside hitter
Aden Frohlich locked down the net, pitching in with 2 blocks.
The Maccabees have added some new faces to their roster with
Ezra Rosenfeld,
Menachem Solomon,
Gabe Simon-Hakalir, and
Peter Osen each making their Maccabee debut.
With the losses, the Macs are now 0-2 on the year.
HOW IT HAPPENED - Game One (L, 0-3)
- The Maccabees started the first set strong, keeping pace with the Lions in the early rallies. However, as the match progressed, they struggled to maintain momentum. Despite key plays from Frohlich and Trabelsi, Yeshiva was unable to overcome Bryn Athyn's dominant service run, ultimately dropping the set, 25-9.
- Yeshiva battled hard in the second set, staying competitive with the Lions early on. Key blocks by Solomon and Frohlich, along with kills from Frohlich and Werta, kept the Maccabees in contention. Werta also contributed a crucial service ace to tie the set at 5-5. However, a series of errors and strong attacking from Bryn Athyn allowed them to pull ahead. The Maccabees were unable to mount a comeback, falling 25-13.
- The third set saw Yeshiva take an early advantage, capitalizing on Bryn Athyn's service errors. Despite trailing 3-11, they continued to fight, with kills from Simon-Hakalir, Werta, and Osen helping to cut the deficit to just five points. Unfortunately, the effort was not enough, as the Lions closed out the final set 25-18.

HOW IT HAPPENED - Game Two (L, 0-3)
- The Maccabees continued to battle hard in the second game of the day. But they struggled in the first set against Bryn Athyn's strong offensive play. Early kills from Solomon and Werta helped Yeshiva stay competitive, but the effort was not enough. The Lions took advantage of attack errors and service aces to build momentum and end the set, 25-11.
- Similar to the previous sets, Yeshiva kept the beginning of the set competitive. Kills by Werta and Osen allowed Yeshiva to stay within 3 points early on. However, the Lions' dominant performance and a 9-0 run gave them control of the set. Despite Yeshiva's efforts, the Lions closed out the set with a 25-13 victory.
- As the final set of the day rolled around, it was clear that Yeshiva was running out of steam. The Lions quickly took control, jumping to a dominant 8-0 lead. Despite a few bright moments from Yeshiva, such as strong serves and attacks, the Maccabees couldn't break through. Bryn Athyn closed out the set with a final score of 25-6, securing the match.
