NEW YORK, NY - Continuing their homestand, the Yeshiva University Men's Volleyball team took on the St. Joseph's Long Island Bears. The Macs fought hard but fell short, losing 3-0 on Tuesday, March 11th.
Jonathan Werta shined on offense, leading the Macs with a season-high seven kills.
Amiti Trabelsi also made a strong impact, leading the way for the Macs with a team-high nine assists. Both players contributed an ace on the night as well.
Aden Frohlich and
Zanvy Lesnoy combined for 16 digs on the night, making sure the defense was strong.
With the losses the Macs are now 1-14, 0-7 in conference play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Set one began with a tight exchange, as an early service error from St. Joseph's put Yeshiva on the board first. The Macs stayed competitive in the opening rallies, with Werta and Trabelsi recording key kills to keep the score close at 8-5. However, the Bears found their rhythm, capitalizing on strong offensive plays to pull ahead. Despite Yeshiva's efforts to stay in the set, a series of attack errors allowed St. Joseph's to build a commanding nine-point lead. Trabelsi and Massimo fought to keep the Macs in contention, but the Bears remained in control, sealing the set 25-12 on a Yeshiva attack error.
- Set two started with St. Joseph's quickly taking control, opening with a kill and a service ace to establish an early lead. Yeshiva responded with a point off an attack error, but the Bears continued to push ahead to extend their lead to 5-1. The Macs fought to stay within reach, with Bertini recording a service ace and Rubin adding a kill to bring the score to 8-5. However, the Bears maintained their momentum, forcing Yeshiva into errors and using key kills to stretch their advantage to 17-6. The Macs showed resilience late in the set, with Werta and Bertini adding crucial kills, trimming the deficit to 21-15. Despite their efforts, the Bears remained in control, closing out the set 25-18.
- Set three began with an exchange of early errors before St. Joseph's took control establishing a 5-1 lead. Yeshiva fought to stay in the set, with Werta and Bertini recording kills to keep the deficit manageable at 9-5. However, St. Joseph's went on a run of their own, to widen the gap to 15-5. The Macs attempted a late push, stringing together a series of points behind kills from Bertini and Werta, along with a service ace from Trabelsi, trimming the deficit to 19-12. St. Joseph's remained steady, responding with strong offensive plays. Yeshiva showed resilience, pushing the score to 23-17, but a late attack error from the Macs and a block by the Bears sealed the set and the match for St. Joseph's with a 25-17 win.
