NEW YORK, NY - Hosting their final Tri-Match of the 2025 season, the Yeshiva University Men's Volleyball team welcomed the Manhattanville University Valiants and the University of Mount Saint Vincent Dolphins to the Max Stern Athletic Cneter. The Macs fought hard for every point but came up short, falling in both matches by scores of 3-0 and 3-1 on Sunday, March 23rd.
Offensively, the Macs had two standout performers reach double digits across both matches.
Jonathan Werta tallied 12 kills — five in match one and seven in match two — while also contributing three aces and nine digs.
Massimo Bertini delivered an impressive performance with 13 kills, recording three in the first match and a season-high 10 kills in the second.
Aden Frohlich and
Yoni Rubin served as defensive anchors for the Macs, with Frohlich tallying 17 digs and Rubin adding 16 across both matches.
With the losses the Macs are now 1-21, 0-13 in conference play.
HOW IT HAPPENED – Game 1 vs Manhattanville University (L, 0-3)
- Yeshiva started the match against Manhattanville facing an early offensive surge. The Valiants came out strong jumping to a 4-0 lead. The Macs responded with a block by Gabe Simon-Hakalir and a kill from Werta off an assist from Frohlich, but Manhattanville kept the pressure on extending their lead to 13-4. Errors by the Valiants would give the Macs what they needed to stay in the match, as well as a kill by Werta helping close the gap to 21-11. However, the Valiants finished strong to secure the set for the Valiants, 25-11.
- In set two Manhattanville came out swinging once again, quickly establishing a 6-0. Yeshiva struggled to find their rhythm early on, but a Manhattanville attack error finally put the Macs on the board at 7-1. Ari Shklyar sparked a bit of momentum with a powerful kill, followed by another to narrow the gap to 10-5. The Macs kept fighting, capitalizing on a few Manhattanville errors and strong defensive efforts by Frohlich, closing the score to 14-9. Eli Anina entered the match and made an immediate impact with a block alongside Shklyar to keep the Macs within striking distance. Yeshiva continued battling point-for-point, with Bertini and Rubin landing clutch kills to cut the lead to 23-17. Despite the late push, the Valiants sealed the set with a kill and a service ace, giving Manhattanville a 25-17 win in set two.
- Set three began similarly, as Manhattanville jumped to a quick 3-0 lead. Yeshiva responded with a kill from Bertini and an ace of his own, leveling the score at 4-4. Werta added a kill to keep the Macs close, but Manhattanville continued to push back. The Macs showed resilience, with Werta continuing to add kills to keep the set within reach at 11-8. Despite some errors from Manhattanville, the Valiants stayed in control, capitalizing on a few Yeshiva mistakes to stretch the lead to 14-8. The Macs refused to go quietly trimming the deficit to 17-11. However, the Valiants closed things out with a service ace and a final kill, securing the set 25-15 and clinching the match.

HOW IT HAPPENED – Game 2 vs St. Mount Saint Vincent (L, 1-3)
- The Macs started set one with momentum, capitalizing on an early Dolphin error to get on the board. However, CMSV responded with an impressive 6-0 run. The Macs stayed resilient, narrowing the gap to 7-3 with back-to-back kills from Bertini and Werta. Yeshiva continued to fight, with Shklyar finding success at the net, but costly errors slowed their progress. The Dolphins maintained steady, powerful play, extending their lead to 16-11. Despite a late push from the Macs — highlighted by a Bertini kill off a set from Gabe Simon-Hakalir and a strong block from Shklyar and Simon-Hakalir — Yeshiva couldn't close the gap, dropping set one 25-15 to the Dolphins.
- Set two opened with both teams trading early errors, but the Macs quickly found their rhythm, fueled by aggressive play from Bertini and Werta. A series of attack errors from the Dolphins helped Yeshiva build momentum, surging to a 14-6 lead after back-to-back service aces from Werta. CMSV fought to regroup closing the gap to 18-12. The Macs, however, stayed composed, extending their lead behind key kills from Frohlich and Bertini. The Dolphins made a late push, with a 5-1 run to tie the score at 21-21. The Dolphins held their ground, slamming down a crucial kill and ultimately sealing the set 25-22.
- Set three began with Yeshiva taking an early lead, sparked by a service ace from Trabelsi and a strong kill from Simon-Hakalir. The Dolphins quickly responded, with a back-and-forth exchange of kills and errors keeping the score close. However, the Dolphins' service errors and attack mistakes, coupled with the Macs' solid play, allowed Yeshiva to pull ahead with a 16-11 lead. This run was fueled by timely kills from Shklyar and Bertini. Despite continued errors, the Dolphins' defense and occasional kills helped keep them within reach. Yeshiva, however, managed to hold off a late rally from CMSV, with the Dolphins narrowing the gap thanks to a service ace and some kills. With the score at 24-19, Yeshiva sealed the set with a service ace from Trabelsi, claiming the set 25-19.
- Set four opened with CMSV jumping ahead quickly, thanks to a service error by Yeshiva and some solid plays.Yeshiva responded with a strong kill by Bertini, but the Dolphins kept their momentum pushing them ahead. The Macs continued to struggle with errors, including attack mistakes and service errors, giving CMSV a 16-6 lead. Despite some strong efforts from Yeshiva, such as a service ace from Shklyar and a few timely kills from Bertini, the Macs couldn't overcome the errors that kept stacking up. CMSV's consistency helped them maintain control of the set. With a score of 24-12, CMSV sealed the set at 25-22, putting them up 3-1 in the match and securing the victory.
