NEW LONDON, CT - Hitting the pitch for the first time this season, the Yeshiva Women's Soccer Team fell at Mitchell College, losing to the Mariners by a score of 9-1 on Sunday, Aug. 31st.
On top of being the season opener, the game served as an additional milestone for nine new Maccabees, with
Leah Sasin,
Sabrina Linden,
Shira Rouhani,
Danielle Goldschein, Channah Yurovsky,
Naomi Sigman,
Chana Light,
Perla Freoa and
Sophia Haironson all donning the blue and white for the first time.
Offensively, the Maccabees saw a goal off the right foot of Sigman, YU's first score of the season.
On the defensive side of the ball, rookie keeper Haironson tallied six saves.
With the loss, the Macs fall to 0-1.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Yeshiva applied continuous pressure throughout the first half, seeing shots on goal by Sigman, Sasin and Rachel Amar. However, all three attempts were turned away, and Mitchell jumped out to a 5-0 lead, a scoreline that held into the break.
- The Macs finally connected in the 74th minute, with Sigman taking matters into her own hands and powering the ball past the keeper. Unfortunately, the effort was not enough to keep pace with Mitchell, as Yeshiva ultimately fell, 9-1.
