NEW YORK, NY - Taking on their second consecutive CUNYAC opponent, the Yeshiva Women's Volleyball Team felled Medgar Evers College, defeating the Cougars by a score of 3-0 on Wednesday, Sept. 3rd.
Offensively, the Maccabees were led by the pair of
Elle Ohayon and
Shany Elmaleh. Both tallied three kills on the night, while Elmaleh notched nine service aces and Ohayon seven.
Ohayon also shone on the defensive side of the ball, heading up the unit with 10 digs.
With the win, the Macs improve to 2-1 on the year.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Yeshiva jumped out to an early lead in set one, going up 14-4 behind kills from Candace Villavicencio and Estee Brintouch. Not letting their foot off the gas, YU relied on Elmaleh's elite serving to continue to surge, seeing three aces from the California native before taking the period, 25-8.
- The second set proved more competitive than the first, with the teams knotted up early on at 7-7, 10-10 and 12-12. However from there, on the back of a truly incredible service run from Ohayon, the Macs seized control. 13 straight points cemented YU's stranglehold on the period, with the Maccabees coming out on top, 25-12.
- Unlike the first two sets, Yeshiva started slow in the third, trailing by as many as five points at 8-3. However, behind strong serving from Elmaleh and Progress Gasa, the Macs quickly reestablished themselves, taking a 13-9 lead. YU would only continue to surge, relying on errors from the Cougars along with kills from Gasa and Leya Dennen to lock up a 25-16 victory.
