Men’s Basketball Dominates Mount Saint Mary For Fifth-Straight Conference Win

NEW YORK, NY - Staying undefeated in conference play, the Yeshiva Men's Basketball Team downed Mount Saint Mary College, beating the Knights by a score of 89-60 on Saturday, Jan. 10th.

Offensively, the Maccabees saw a season-high 14 players record points, with four hitting double digits. Yoav Oselka led the way with 16, while Yair Dovrat, Joe Schanzer, and Noam Edri recorded 14, 12, and 11 respectively, new personal bests for both Schanzer and Edri.

On top of his scoring prowess, Oselka had a stellar night on the defensive side of the ball, swiping five steals while adding on three rebounds and a block.

With the win, the Macs are now 6-7, 5-0 in Skyline play.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Yeshiva burst out of the gate, rushing out to a 10-0 lead just two minutes into the game behind buckets from Dovrat, Zevi Samet, and Max Zakheim. While the Knights fought back, closing within four at 17-13, the Maccabees quickly reestablished control, forcing a Mount Saint Mary timeout after going up 30-13 with 9:04 remaining.

  • The stoppage in play did nothing to cut into Yeshiva's edge. Scoring from Oselka, Dovrat, and Roy Itcovichi kept the margin between the two squads intact, as the Macs went into the break leading by 17 at 43-26.

  • The Maccabees did not let up in the second half, completely smothering their conference foe. Yeshiva's lead hit 20 six minutes into the period, and ballooned out to as many as 32, burying any hopes the Knights had of a comeback. When the final horn sounded, the Macs walked out of the MSAC with a dominant 89-60 victory.

  • In all, the Maccabees outshot the Knights in every facet of the game, shooting 58.9% from the field to their 39.0%. The bench proved especially pivotal to the victory, with the unit putting up 40 of the 89 points.
