JAMAICA, NY - Picking up a win in their last game of the season, the Yeshiva Men's Soccer Team took down The College at Old Westbury, beating the Panthers by a score of 5-4 on Wednesday, Oct. 28th.
The Maccabees were led by their senior captain
Franco Busso, with the Argentina native playing his final game in YU blue. Busso shone with three goals on the night, a number that brings his season total to 21, a new single season program record.
With the result, the Macs close out the year with a record of 4-7-4, 1-7-3 in conference play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Old Westbury opened the scoring early, taking a 1-0 lead in just the fourth minute.
- The Maccabees quickly answered, with Busso scoring his first goal of the day in the seventh minute off an assist from Daniel Mermelszteyn to tie the game at 1-all.
- Old Westbury tallied another two quick scores, going up 3-1 off goals in the 11th and 16th minutes. Omri Vashdi cut YU's deficit back down to one by finding the net in the 18th off a pass from Ariel Diner, but the Panthers responded in the 27th to push the score out to 4-2, a line that would hold into the break.
- Despite their deficit headed into the period, the Maccabees dominated the second half. Yeshiva scored three times, with Uri Aron finding paydirt in the 65th minute, and Busso scoring twice in the 66th and 84th minutes.
- On the other side of the ball, YU's defense proved a brick wall, holding the Panthers to just nine shots in the latter 45 minutes, none of which found paydirt.
