NEW YORK, NY - Playing in their penultimate home game of the regular season, the Yeshiva Men's Basketball Team took down the University of Mount Saint Vincent, beating the Dolphins by a score of 107-71 on Tuesday, Feb. 10th.
Offensively, the Maccabees saw four players score in double digits. Stalwart
Yoav Oselka led the way with 27, while
Zevi Samet and
Max Zakheim put up 14 and 10 respectively. Rookie
Johny Dan also tallied 11 on 4-5 shooting, a new personal best Los Angeles native.
On top of his scoring prowess Oselka also dominated on the defensive side of the glass, pulling down nine rebounds while also notching five steals and a block.
With the win, the Macs are now 15-8, 14-0 in conference play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Despite UMSV keeping the game close early on, seeing the game tied at 6-all four minutes in, Yeshiva quickly pulled away. Powered by a fast 12 points from Oselka, YU skyrocketed their advantage into the double digits, leading by 10 at 20-10 with 10:49 remaining.
- The Macs' lead only continued to grow throughout the final 10 minutes of the half, peaking at 19 at 39-20. While the Dolphins managed to claw back five of those points, YU still went into the break with a comfortable 51-37 cushion.
- Not taking their foot off the gas in the second half, Yeshiva's lead took just three minutes to hit 20 points, with three straight charity shots from Samet pushing their advantage from 19 to 22. Even as the Maccabee bench unit got significant playing time, YU's margin orbited 20 points, not falling below 17 or above 22 for the next five minutes of play.
- However, catalyzed by back-to-back layups from Oselka, Yeshiva began to pull away. The Macs' lead passed 30 at 81-50 with 10:05 left, and 40 at 100-60 with 3:44 left. Their advantage stretched all the way out to 42 points at 105-62, as the men in blue and white resoundingly defended their home court with an ultimate 107-71 win.
