Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Women’s Basketball Comes Up Short at Farmingdale

FARMINGDALE, NY - Playing on the road for the final time this season, the Yeshiva Women's Basketball Team fell to Farmingdale State College, losing at the Rams by a score of 77-56 on Tuesday, Feb. 10th.

Offensively, the Maccabees saw four players score in double digits. Tali Cohen led the way with 12, while Naomi Sigman, Ilana Schwartz, and Fortune Hanan notched 11, 10, and 10 respectively.

On top of her scoring prowess, Hanan also had a dominant night on the defensive end, completing her double-double with 12 rebounds, while adding five blocks.

With the result, the Macs are now 2-20, 1-16 in conference play.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Yeshiva kept things close throughout the first quarter, not allowing the Rams more than a five-point lead at any given time. Two Sigman foul shots and a layup from Hanan closed YU within one, going into the break down, 14-13.

  • Yeshiva continued to keep pace with Farmingdale in the second quarter. While the Rams' lead did hit double digits at 23-13, strong scoring from Sigman, Hanan, and Schwartz fought back, as the Macs trailed just 34-28 going into halftime.

  • Despite their first half success, it was in the third quarter that Farmingdale began to pull away. Yeshiva still continued to produce at a steady clip, scoring a game-high 16 points in the period, yet they could not keep pace with the Rams' offense. YU closed out the quarter with a 15-point deficit, down 59-44.

  • The Maccabees scored 12 points throughout the fourth quarter, seeing points from Schwartz, Danielle Zaretsky, Lauren Ashkenzai, and Eliana Leitner. However, the effort was not enough to overtake their conference foe, with Yeshiva ultimately leaving Long Island with a 77-56 loss.
