Baseball Splits DH With Lehman, Picks Up Season’s First Win

LYNDHURST, NJ - Tallying a dash in the win column for the first time in 2026, the Yeshiva Baseball Team split a doubleheader with Lehman College, dropping the first game 11-8, before winning the second 9-0 on Tuesday, Apr. 14th.

In the batters box, the Maccabees saw stellar performances out of the pair of Jake Arnow and Noah Steinmetz. Both proved lethal for Lehman pitchers, with Arnow tallying three hits, three RBIs and a run, while Steinmetz notched five hits, four RBIS, and three runs, with both registering home runs on the afternoon.

From the mound, Chaim Stark had himself a career night, picking up his first ever win. The sophomore pitched a 7-inning shutout, holding Lehman to just three hits while striking out six batters.

With the result, the Macs are now 1-17 on the year.

HOW IT HAPPENED - Game 1 (L, 11-8)
  • The Maccabees drew first blood to kick off game one, scoring in the bottom of the first inning when Reuben Benzaquen was brought in by a Steinmetz single.

  • While Lehman managed to erase YU's edge in the second, putting the Macs down 2-1, the men in blue and white responded in kind in the third, seizing back the lead at 3-2 thanks to runs from Assaf Perl and Benzaquen.

  • While both squads were held scoreless in the fourth, the fifth inning saw the game's pendulum swing once again. Lehman went up 4-3 off two runs in the top of the inning, before YU responded with four of their own in the bottom, scoring on a pair of home runs from Arnow and Steinmetz over the left field fence.

  • However, despite the Macs going into the sixth with a 7-4 lead, that margin would prove insufficient. Yeshiva surrendered seven runs in the final two innings, giving up six in the sixth and one in the seventh. While YU managed one of their own in the bottom of the sixth when Lior Bongart was brought in by a Lehman error, the effort was not enough to recover control of the game, with the Maccabees ultimately falling, 11-8.

HOW IT HAPPENED - Game 2 (W, 9-0)
  • The Maccabees proved dominant in game two, helmed by their indomitable righty in Stark. In just his sixth start as a member of the YU baseball program, Stark had a career outing in nearly every category, holding Lehman to three hits and no runs over seven innings pitched, while also striking out six of the 24 batters he faced.

  • On top of YU's defensive success, Yeshiva also saw excellent production from their bats. The Maccabee offense came alive after scoreless outings in the first and second innings, announcing their presence with two runs in the third, four in the fourth, one in the fifth, and two in the sixth. The Macs were led by Steinmetz, who notched two hits and two runs on three at bats, while Gavriel Weinstein tallied two hits, two RBIs, and a run.
