Female Athlete of the Month - May 2015

Merav Saden Barach is our female Athlete of the Month for the month of May. Merav is a two sport star athlete as she is a member of Yeshiva’s softball and women’s soccer teams. As a softball player, Merav has a career batting average of .307 and has come up big in critical moments. Last season, she hit a key homerun in the last inning during a ferocious comeback in the semifinal round of the Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference softball championship. As a soccer player, Merav was an HVIAC All-Conference player in 2013 and scored as many as five goals in one game.

What is your career ambition?Jewish studies teacher
What is your favorite thing about Yeshiva University?The quality of both general and Judaic academics and the wide range of opportunities all within a Jewish environment.
What is your favorite thing about being a student-athlete at Yeshiva University?My teammates!! On the field and off, the team becomes a family which makes everything else about being a student-athlete so much better.
What Yeshiva University class have you found most beneficial?Classroom Management and Instruction with Dr. Miriam Hirsch and Ramban with Dr. Michelle Levine
What was your greatest memory as a Yeshiva student-athlete?For softball- hitting a two-run homerun to tie up the HVIAC semifinal game last year against Sarah Lawrence in the bottom of the 8th inning, and in general seeing the program grow since my first year. For soccer- scoring 5 goals against Medgar Evers last year.
Who was the most influential person to you as a child?My parents and siblings
What is your favorite food?Grilled vegetables and baked ziti

What is your favorite movie?Hercules
In high school, what clubs were you involved with?softball, soccer, basketball, and Gedolim Club
What accomplishment are you most proud of?Balancing my sports and classes and clubs in college- I'm proud that I've been able to make the most of my years here and not have to sacrifice anything I care about.
What is your favorite hobby (besides the sport you play)?watching Ted Talks and biking
Favorite sport to play (besides your sport)?basketball
What is your favorite sports team?I surprisingly don't follow sports
What would people you know now find surprising about you when you were younger?I had a serious curly red afro when I was younger
