Jonathan Halpert served as head coach of the Yeshiva University men’s basketball program for 42 seasons, becoming the longest tenured head men’s basketball coach in New York City history. He has coached over 300 student-athletes, including several father/son tandems. This basketball icon won 416 games in his illustrious coaching career, the sixth most in the history of New York City collegiate basketball. Halpert led the Maccabees to 15 straight seasons of .500-plus records (1987-88 to 2001-02). A two-time Skyline Coach of the Year (1999-00 and 2019-10), he earned the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) “Guardians of the Game” honor in 2003-04. Halpert played on the YU men’s basketball team for four years, where he was team captain as a senior and was coached by the legendary Bernard “Red” Sarachek.
