Yeshiva University Athletics

Schedule

Albert Baez

After serving one season as the team’s pitching coach, Albert Baez will make his collegiate head coaching debut for Yeshiva University in the 2013 campaign.
Baez is no stranger to the Skyline Conference, as he was named its Pitcher of the Year following his senior campaign at Purchase (N.Y.) College in 2011. He was named the college’s Male Athlete of the Year that same season, and garnered Rookie of the Year and first-team all-conference honors from the Skyline in 2009. The Panthers’ career leader in strikeout-to-walk and walks-per-nine-innings-pitched, Baez went on to a two-year professional career with the Dodge City A’s of the Jayhawk League, before injuries forced him to end his playing career.

A member of the 2006 All-New York City team under head coach Walter Stampfel’s tutelage as a scholastic standout at Mount Saint Michael High School in the Bronx, Baez also helped pitched the New York City entrant to a gold medal in the 2005 Empire State Games.

During his early childhood, the Manhattan resident lived in the Dominican Republic. Baez also played baseball growing up with Pedro Alvarez, a third baseman for the Pittsburgh Pirates. Not surprisingly, Baez considered Dominican native Pedro Martinez as his idol growing up.
