Eric Amkraut is an Assistant Athletic Director for Yeshiva University. In addition to assisting the Athletic Director in a wide range of operational aspects, he serves as the point person for the Department’s fundraising efforts along with maintaining alumni connections to the University’s athletic programs as well as oversight of the University’s athletic facilities.
For ten years prior to joining the YU Athletic staff, Amkraut served as the Athletic Director and Supervisor of Physical Education for the Yeshivah of Flatbush where he not only overhauled the entire K-12 Phys Ed curriculum to provide a comprehensive academic program with a focus on lifelong physical and mental health and fitness as well as a knowledge base in a wide range of individual and team sports, but also brought stability to the athletic program through intensive coaching training and an increase in athletic offerings with a particular focus on improved offerings for the school’s female student population.
Prior to that, Amkraut and his family lived in Israel where he was both the Athletic Director at the Anglican International School, Jerusalem and the founding Commissioner of the Israel Football League - the first tackle football league in the Middle East. For the 2007-2008 inaugural season of the IFL, Amkraut instructed and trained the players of the four fledgling teams in all aspects of game play while coordinating efforts to identify Both League and individual franchise sponsorships, regional home venues for each team, identification of insurance services, selection of appropriate equipment and the training of coaches and game officials for the League.
Before relocating to Israel, Amkraut spent 7 years in Athletic and Academic administration in the New Jersey public schools.
Amkraut got his start in intercollegiate athletics as the Strength and Conditioning Coach for Rutgers University where he had primary duties in coordinating trading for the school’s top ranked Division 1 men’s and women’s basketball programs as well as 24 of the University’s other 28 varsity programs. He placed particular emphasis on creating a welcoming and comfortable atmosphere for all of the University’s intercollegiate athletes, particularly those on the women’s teams for whom at the time strength training was often a new and unfamiliar arena.
Amkraut is a graduate of Rutgers University, where he earned his Bachelor’s Degree and a Master’s Degree in Education Administration. As an undergraduate, Amkraut was a member of Rutgers' baseball team as well as both Indoor and Outdoor Track & Field teams.
