Yogev Berdugo

Yogev Berdugo is in his second season as assistant coach of the men’s basketball team at Yeshiva University.

As assistant coach, Berdugo is head of scouting and skill development. He also works with Yeshiva University’s strength and conditioning coach Aaron Baker in team workouts.

“I feel I have a lot of energy and passion to help instill a winning culture at Yeshiva through stressing attention to detail with a heavy stress on skill development and game theory,” Berdugo stated. “What I love most about Yeshiva is representing such a prestigious institution and the opportunity to play a role in elevating the program.”

Prior to his arrival with Yeshiva, Berdugo spent the past three seasons as head boys basketball coach at Weinbaum Yeshiva High School in Boca Raton, Fla. While there, Berdugo led the Storm to the South Florida Jewish Day School tournament championship in 2012 and 2013. He also coached the team to victory in the Memphis Cooper Tier II championship and Red Sarachek Tier III championship in 2013.

Prior to his coaching career, Berdugo spent many years as an advanced level basketball player at both the professional and collegiate levels. He played professionally in Israel’s premier league for Macabbi Givat Shmuel during the 2005-06 season. Before that, he played four years of college basketball, lettering two seasons, from 2001 to 2003, at Hofstra University, a Division I institution in the highly competitive Colonial Athletic Association, before transferring to Brandeis University where he played his final two seasons and earned his degree in Sociology in 2005.

“My past experiences as a player both at the collegiate and professional levels as well as a coach at the high school level has allowed me to understand firsthand what it takes for young men to endure the grind of a season,” Berdugo stated.  “From the pregame prep to nutritional planning to skill work to the psychology of the game I am excited to help develop the men’s basketball team members at Yeshiva University.”

In addition to his coaching and playing career, Berdugo is the founder and director of Step it Up, a summer sleep away basketball camp.

Berdugo was born in Tel-Aviv, Israel and raised in Boca Raton, Fla.

Currently, Berdugo resides in New York, N.Y.
