Elliott Smego

Elliot Smego was hired as an assistant men’s tennis coach at Yeshiva University in August of 2022. 

Prior to Yeshiva, Smego served as the head tennis coach for the women’s and men’s programs at Rutgers University-Newark during the 2020 season. He served as the assistant coach for both Scarlet Raiders tennis teams a year prior.  

Smego was as an assistant men’s tennis coach at his alma mater, Drew University, during the 2013 season. During that year, the Rangers won the Landmark Conference Championship and then knocked off Farmingdale State College in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament. 

As a student-athlete, Smego played for the Rangers men’s tennis team for four years, from 2009 until 2012. He played the No. 1 doubles flight and No. 4 singles position throughout his collegiate tennis career and helped lead Drew to four Landmark Conference Championships, three NCAA Tournament appearances, and a pair of NCAA Postseason victories as a player. He served as the team captain during his senior season and was a First Team All-Landmark Doubles selection four times. He was named to the All-Landmark second singles team during his senior campaign.  

After graduating from Drew University in 2013, Smego played in the USTA Caribbean Section in San Juan, Puerto Rico. He won seven USTA Junior Doubles Championships and 10 Adult UTSA and Regional Titles. He was ranked as high as sixth in the 18 and Over Caribbean Section and earned a No. 3 ranking in the USTA Caribbean Section. 

A native of Ponce, Puerto Rico, Smego earned his bachelor’s degree in biology. He currently resides in Montclair, N.J.
