Darren Rea

Assistant Coach Darren Rea brings a wealth of softball knowledge to Yeshiva’s softball team. With years of experience both on the field and coaching, Rea has been, and will continue to be, instrumental in building YU’s young program. As a player, Rea spent 14 years playing for New Zealand in the ISC Men’s World Fastpitch Tournament. Rea’s New Zealand team won a gold medal one year when the tournament was held in South Africa, and has also received All-World Second Team honors for his play. In addition to playing for New Zealand, Rea also spent three years playing for the USA Maccabee Men’s Fastpitch Softball Team.

After his playing career, Rea worked as a pitching coach for New Zealand’s national team, and helped win a silver medal in the World Championships. He also works as the head pitching instructor at Pro Prospects Training Center in Monticello, N.Y. Rea has a degree in Electronics and Telecommunications from the Central Institute of Technology in New Zealand, and also spent five years in the New Zealand army.
