A 2016 graduate of Fredonia State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in sports management, Mapes served as a sports information intern as an undergraduate. In the summer of 2015, Mapes served as the IT intern for the Florida Panthers and the NHL Draft. She then went on to work as a communications assistant at the American Athletic Conference in Providence, RI, and was the primary contact for softball and tennis.
From 2017-19, Mapes served as Graduate Assistant for Athletic Communications at NCAA Division I Canisius College in Buffalo, NY. While earning her Master of Science degree in sport administration, Mapes was the primary contact for the Griff's' softball, cross country, track, swimming and diving, and women's soccer teams.
During her time in Western New York, Mapes also worked for the Buffalo Bills of the NFL in their ticket department and for the Buffalo Sabres of the NHL as a sales associate.
From 2019-2021, she served as Assistant Director of Sports Information at New York University. She assisted with the publicity of the Violets' 23 varsity athletics teams by helping to maintain the department's website, oversee statistical and webcast operations, create game programs, and manage NYU's use of social media, new media and technology.
