Richard Wankel joined the Yeshiva University women's basketball program as an assistant coach in September of 2020.
Prior to Yeshiva, Wankel served as the assistant girls varsity basketball coach at Smithtown East, during the 2019-20 season. Wankel served under current Yeshiva University Head Women's Basketball Coach, Bill Zatulskis, as he helped the Smithtown East basketball program with scouting, running practice, game preparation, and video breakdown.
Wankel was a volunteer youth coach from 2015 until 2020. He conducted basketball activities year-round, gearing toward fundamentals, learning, progression, confidence, team building, and providing lessons in basketball and overall development opportunities for youth attributable to other aspects of daily life.
The Saint James, N.Y. resident has coached eight championship teams during his career.
Wankel earned his bachelor's degree in business administration from Dowling College in 1998. He received his Juris Doctor from Touro Law School in 2002.
