Roberta Gonzalez joined the Yeshiva University women’s fencing team as an assistant coach during the 2015 offseason. Roberta brings with her a wealth of experience both coaching and participating in fencing events that will prove valuable to YU’s fencing program.

Gonzalez has over ten years of experience in international fencing competitions. She was awarded the “Athlete of the Year” (all sports) by the Philippine National Sports Awards in 1995 and 1997, as well as the “Athlete of the Century” for fencing by the Sports Writers Association of the Philippines in 2000. In 1998, Gonzalez was the #1 ranked fencer in the Philippines for both women’s foil and epée. She also has coaching experience as an assistant to her former coach, who coached the University of the Philippines fencing varsity team, as well as the Philippines National Team Coach for women’s epée.

Gonzalez moved to the United States from the Philippines in 2006, and has worked as a graphic designer, an art director, and a partner for a start-up coffee brand in New York City.
