Dennis Mente began his second stint as head men's volleyball coach at Yeshiva University in February of 2020. He will also be serving as the head women's volleyball coach.
No stranger to Yeshiva Athletics, Mente guided the men's volleyball program as the head coach during the 2016 season. He led the Maccabees to five wins that year, including four in Skyline play.
Mente coached and mentored a pair of Skyline All-Conference honorees, Yosef Ajami in 2020 and Alon Jakubowitz in 2022. On the women's side, Ashley Botnick was selected to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team in 2022. That same year, Shany Elmaleh set the program's all-time single-match records for kills (17) and points (23) during Yeshiva's victory over Medgar Evers College.
Mente joined the Maccabees after gaining a wealth of coaching experience at all levels, including club, high school, and international. His most recent appointment was serving as girls volleyball coach at Columbia Grammar and Preparatory High School on the upper west side of Manhattan where he coached from 2011-12.
Mente's volleyball coaching experience also includes having been a club team girls volleyball coach at Aviators Sports Club in Brooklyn, N.Y. in 2011. Before that, he coached the boys volleyball team at De La Salle Santiago Zobel School in his native land, the Philippines, from 1992-2004. His coaching experience also includes being a national coach for the Republic of the Philippines with several teams between 1997 and 2003.
The Philippine Normal University graduate earned his bachelor's degree in physical education in 1991. He earned a master's degree in physical education from Canisius College, in Buffalo, N.Y., in 2010.
