Grigoriy Agrest

Grigory Agrest is in his first season as assistant coach of the women’s volleyball team at Yeshiva University and is the son of head coach, Joseph Agrest.
 
As assistant coach, Agrest’s responsibilities include practice set up, player development, statistical breakdown, game preparation, outreach and fundraising.
 
Born in Grokiy, Russia and raised in Brooklyn, N.Y., Agrest is a 2010 graduate of Brooklyn College where he received his degree in Physical Education. Agrest also holds a master’s degree in special / general education from Touro College.
 
Agrest started coaching volleyball in 2003 as an assistant coach for the Jewish Community House (JCH) of Bensonhurst’s regional team. In 2005, he became head coach of its 16U Junior Olympic team. Then in 2008 he became the head coach for the JCH’s Maccabee team, medaling each year, culminating with a Gold Medal finish at the 2014 Orange County (Calif.) Maccabee games.
 
Agrest’s coaching experience also includes serving as assistant coach under his dad at St. Peter’s University, a Division I institution out of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC), in 2010.
 
In addition to his coaching experience, Agrest is an avid volleyball player. His volleyball playing experience includes competing in the Association of Volleyball Professionals (AVP) beach volleyball co-ed, 4 on 4 tournament, and finishing in third place to earn a spot at the amateur New York State finals.
 
Agrest has also served in the United States Army National Guard. He started serving in 2007 and received an honorable discharge in 2010.
 
Agrest resides in Brooklyn, N.Y. with his wife Florina and their two year old son Elliot.
